Tagged: These Cubs Have a Thing for the Zoo

To celebrate the birthday of fireworks, we went to the zoo.

Riley said we needed to start off with a light snack.*

*One of everything.

Dad kept squeezing her–probably so she wouldn’t pack all the zoo food into her tummy.

Then it was time for some marching, of course.

Choosing a lollipop is serious business.

One last hand-washing in the family restroom …

… one last attempt to scare the kangaroos with a lion costume …

… and it was time to go.

It had been years since we’d been to the zoo, so …

I brought my bear (named Tiger) along to see what’s new there.

One word: Hats.

Tiger liked checking out the polar bears.

This, however, is not a polar bear.

This is a giant snapping turtle that used to scare me when I was a little kid. I’m cool with her now.

This bird chews gum and blows bubbles out of her nose.

This Zoe doesn’t chew gum at all …

… but she eats black beans now.

Here she is showing you what a black bean is.

Here she is eating one.

Ha! I was doing that years ago!

Youngsters these days.

Zoe takes this stuff personally now.

To demonstrate her maturity, she counts her beans (but not out loud).

I don’t realize it, but dad gave Zoe some of this quesadilla when I wasn’t paying attention!

This is her “How you like me now?” look.

Back on the carouself! (Dad says to warn you that he’s “ripping through these so he can knock out the posts and keep people from getting antsy.”)

This is a fencepost.

These birds pretty much know me by now.

This one is named Sally.

Dad tries to keep it a secret, but he sure loves his cubs.

Hello, mandrill.

Excuse me, mandrill–did you see that duck over there?

It’s a pretty weird duck …

… who stands on only one leg.

See?

THIS IS MY FIRST-EVER ZOO PHOTO! I tried to capture Porky’s pointiness.

This is pretty much the opposite.

This is even more so.

See you next time!

I went five full days without going to the zoo. I needed to spend some quality time on the shady side of the hippo statue …

… and some time on the carousel too!

The ‘keets missed me. I just know it.

Dad wore a backpack full of Zoe today, so I insisted on bringing mine.

Had it been full of fish, the penguins would have really appreciated my visit.

I kept running off today and making Mom and Dad chase me.

This rare Dad sighting shows his determined yet cartoonish look when he sees me running and decides to chase me down.

GOTTA GO BYE.

Today was national elephant day in Thailand, so I got to see my pachyderm friend having a nice drink of water.

No–that doesn’t make sense to me either.
