Yesterday’s weather was nice enough to go somewhere fun, but not nice enough to do something outside.

(I’m actually playing the iPhone app known as Cupcakes! but pretend, if you will, that I’m checking the weather or looking up fun things to do.)

Little sis had a great idea: Butterflies!

See this right here? It’s Rosie the tarantula.

Little sis gets to visit tarantulas too, but only the ones behind glass.

That’s no tarantula! It’s also not a bumblebee, even though bumblebees are Zoe’s new favorite. She calls them BUBBLEDEES.

I taught little sis how to do crayon rubbings in the back room.

She listened attentively …

… and totally got it!

This is good stuff.

Some person–she cared way more about bugs than anyone else–showed up to do Story Time.

Little sis was mostly just interested in coloring.

I taught her this concentration-enhancing move.

It works!

Zoe learned to walk only a few weeks ago, so she’s not ready for the spiderweb like I am.

See that green dot? Tarantulas live there.

Ayup.

I think we just showed up at ‘nastics for Oliver’s birthday.

Is that right?

Cool! ‘Nastics!

This is all just regular stuff for big sis.

Clara came too!

Upper body strength is relative to total body size!

The people at ‘nastics called this game “Slam the Cheese.” No, really.

BOMBARDMENT!

See? Strength.

Now that I can WALK, stuff like ‘nastics is really cool.

Oh, yes. Good times.

It’s somebody’s birthday!

I am pretty sure it’s somebody’s birthday!

Yep! This kid from my new class* had his birthday party today.

*I go to school here now. You have to admit that’s awesome.

Dad took us and pointed his camera around the place.

The kid’s name is Quin. He likes dinosaurs …

… so his party was in the dino place at CU Boulder.

I colored this T-Rex very carefully.

Convincing!

Little sis did her part by toddling around the place.

If there’s anything she likes half as much as cake, it’s pressing buttons–especially to start movies.

After some good solid pressing, she found her partner in crime for the day …

… and showed him how to press the button to start the movie.

Speaking of cake, Quin got to blow out his candles.

THAT MEANS IT IS ALMOST TIME TO EAT THE CAKE.

Nom.

After a full morning of pressing and dinosauring and caking, it was time for some art and Grandma Noodles.

Those are two great things!

I helped dad hang this one up on the wall.

UPDATE: I also took this picture myself, with dad holding the camera!

The stickers were just practice art, though.

Anyone with an MFA and a nuanced understanding of post-Saussurean structuralism can put stickers on a piece of paper.

Real art involves a mug of water. Period.

Zoe is still in her ball-point pen phase.

She seems content with it, though.

Also: she likes cake.

Oh yes. That’s right.

I AM WALKING.

That’s big sis and our friend Noah coaching me.

I took four steps in front of Dad earlier in the day, but he didn’t capture it in pixels.

He was ready this time!

This is Noah showing off his T-Rex.

This is Noah not showing off his T-Rex.

This is big sis riding a … dog.

And this is what big sis’s face looks like when she gets to watch Disney movies at someone else’s house for no reason other than that the TV was on.

There were a few things at thanksgiving that we don’t normally get to do. (SOMEONE SEND ME A SWORD FOR XMAS.)

This is Lily, Noah’s little sis. She is only one year old and can play with swords all day if she feels like it. I am just saying.
